Adolescent smokers of Newport cigarettes
A 2004 study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that the percentage of adolescent smokers of Newport cigarettes doubled between 1989 and 1996. Newport cigarettes arrive in several flavors: Full Flavor, Wednesday, and Lights. In the United States effective June 2010, “Wednesday” and “Lights” will be re-released under the brand name in “Blue” and “Gold” respectively. On the box, the words “Menthol Box” for shorts and “Menthol Box of 100 seconds” within 100 seconds were replaced simply with “Cigarettes”. Each variety is sold in 85mm soft packs 80mm hard mixes (royal sizes) (box) and 100mm soft and hard mixes. They are available in standard packets of 20 cigarettes, as well as the more unusual 25, containing 25 cigarettes. Prior to the signing of the tobacco owner’s settlement agreement in the late 1990s, they were sold in ten packages as well.
Non-menthol Newport cigarettes in Full Fragrance and Lights were sold in the United States during the mid to late 1990s, possibly as early as 2002; however, they were discontinued until November 2010, in which they re-released them to keep up with non-menthol cigarette smokers in America. The packages are identical in design to standard menthol; Newports except the turquoise area was red on Full Flavors and yellow as mustard on Lights. The Newport Thin 120s (introduced 1998), the Newport Stripes, and the Newport M-Mix were other variants that were also discontinued.
What are Newport cigarettes?
Newport cigarettes, introduced in 1957, are a brand of menthol cigarettes produced by the Lorillard Tobacco Company. Newport cigarettes account for approximately 35 percent of menthol cigarette sales. The original Newport cigarettes had a white filter and a mint hint; both left in 1969, and thus the white filter was replaced by a standard filter. The Newport cigarettes Classic Flavor has been promoted for years as a cigarette that allows you to “enjoy the full flavor of menthol without drowning out the pure flavor of tobacco.” In the mid-1980s, Newport launched an advertising campaign. In two years, Newports has become the fifth most popular cigarette on the market.
